Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner Date ref. 16610 with box and the original certificate from Rolex (1991)

History

The Rolex Submariner 16610 had been introduced in 1989 and replaced in 2010 by the reference 116610. The reference 16610 had replaced the 168000 which is one of Rolex’s shortest produced references. The 16610 is widely regarded as the last classic and portable Submariner before it was replaced by the more contemporary reference 116610 which features a Maxi case, dial and a “Cerachrom” bezel. Until 1998, the 16610 featured Tritium in both the hands and hour markers on the dial. Unlike its counterpart the 14060, the Submariner 16610 does have a date function and this reference therefore also had a higher list price.
