History

The Rolex Submariner 16610 was introduced in 1989 and replaced by the reference 116610 in 2010. The reference 16610 replaced the 168000 which is one of Rolex's shortest produced references. The 16610 is widely regarded as the last classic and wearable Submariner before it was replaced by the more contemporary reference 116610 equipped with a Maxi case, dial and a "Cerachrom" bezel. Until 1998, the 16610 featured Tritium in both the hands and hour markers on the dial. Unlike its counterpart the 14060, the Submariner 16610 does feature a date function and thus this reference also had a higher list price.
