Omega Speedmaster ref. 2998-61
Omega Speedmaster ref. 2998-61 from ca. 1962
The Omega Speedmaster ref. 2998 is the follower of the first Speedmaster ref. 2915 which was introduced in ca. 1957. The 2998 was produced during 4 years (1959 – 1963) and is the first Speedmaster that was worn in the space (by Wally Schirra Sigma 7 mission, Mercury programme, October 1962). Allegedly there had been 8000 pieces of this reference produced.
The 2998-61 we present to you has the characteristic (original) Alpha hands and ‘no crown guard’ case. The band is the reference 7077. The blue bezel is extremely rare and occurs occasionally in the Speedmasters from the early 1960s.
This Speedmaster comes from circa 1962. The reference 2998 is exceptionally beloved by the collectors of the authentic pre-moon Speedmasters.
