Introduction

Alain Dominique Perrin (Cartier) launched the “Must” collection in 1977. It was an innovative solution to the “quartz crisis” of the era –  to create a range of inexpensive timepieces to pay tribute to its most popular timepiece, the Tank, but use more economical materials to produce it. The  Tank Must was fitted with a silver case with a gold layer on it (Vermeil). There were 14 models available in 2 different sizes & a great variety of dials. The result was that this range of wristwatches saved Cartier from a particularly calamitous era in watchmaking.
